Is a limited mindset standing in your way of reaching your biggest goals and dreams? Even worse, is it keeping you from even dreaming your biggest dreams?
In what ways are you justifying your limiting thoughts? There’s no shame here. We all do it. Do you want to know how to get past it, though? That’s the important piece here.
See, limiting mindsets keep us stuck right where we are. And for some that comfort is all they need in life. But what about you? Do you have big dreams and goals that those limiting thoughts are getting in the way of reaching? Are your bigger goals possibly even unrealized to this point, because you don’t yet dare to dream that big? OK, no worries. There’s no reason that how you have thought up to now has to be how you continue to think. Let’s blow through those thoughts.
We can start with something simple that you can do right this moment.
Ready to cut ties with that limited mindset?
Give yourself permission. Simply say, “Your name”, you have permission to dream your biggest dreams, to set goals to reach those dreams, and to believe in yourself that you can and will achieve them.
Let’s keep building. Just like anything else, changing a limiting mindset full of limiting thoughts requires a shift in habits. It’s not enough for me to suggest that you just try to catch yourself and flip it when you notice them coming up. Of course I encourage that, but actively creating new habits and regimens is where it’s at. You need to be intentional.
Catch the limiting beliefs in the act
You don’t have to start by pretending they don’t exist. In fact, please don’t just try to ignore them. They are there for a reason. That doesn’t mean that the reason is beneficial, but they were created for a reason nonetheless. Identifying the limiting beliefs will allow you to address them directly. If it helps, write them down and really look at them and explore why they are there, so you can work out how you can shift them going forward.
Creating new thoughts
Let’s start with the very first thing you do in the morning…waking up. When you wake up, talk to yourself. Something as simple as “here we go!” works well. Read that with a tone of positive energy, not dread. You hop out of bed, head to the bathroom and prepare for your day with the energy of a conqueror. I’m about to make this day me b%&*h. If that couldn’t be further from reality for you it’s ok. It takes practice.
Here are some ideas for things you can do to prompt the thoughts you want to have first thing in the morning.
Post a piece of paper or even a sticky note on your mirror with limitless thoughts around what you are capable of. Repeat them each morning, but also every time you come into that bathroom.
Another idea is to set timers on your phone throughout the day on a daily repeat with positive mantras. Before the ability to flip a limiting thought can become second nature, we have to build the habit through repetition. It’s not cheating to leave ourselves little love notes.
Turn your phone wallpaper into a goal you’re setting for yourself. (Shameless plug, I sell these in the form of affirmations phone wallpaper in my Etsy shop)
Is there a particular area in your life were you are really stuck? Maybe when you sit down to your desk to create that masterpiece the doubt floods in. Create notes for yourself in that workspace to snap you out of those limiting thoughts and into limitless, empowering ones.
Don’t just glance at these notes you leave for yourself. Actually say them to yourself and feel into the emotions they bring with them. Allow a real moment to be there before moving on.
