Building Your Empire with Your Little Helpers- Engaging Your Family in Your Mompreneurial Journey

So, you’re navigating the waters of entrepreneurship while making sure your family is on board and feeling loved.

More often that not I share tips on how to create boundaries, how to keep your kids occupied while you work, and creating schedules that give you separation between work and non-work life. Today, I’m flipping the script.

Now, I want to share with you an empowering, bold, and approachable way to merge these two worlds. It’s like Mary Poppins said in that timeless Disney classic, “In every job that must be done, there is an element of fun. You find the fun, and – SNAP – the job’s a game!”

So let’s jump right in and make our business a game that our family loves to play with us. Here’s how we can do it:

1. Sparking Interest:

Start by sharing your passion for your business with your kids. The excitement in your eyes, the passion in your voice, and the sheer joy you get from your work – let them see it all. Just remember to make it fun and engaging. Use bold, colorful, exciting tools if you must!

2. Appropriate Responsibilities:

Assigning age-appropriate responsibilities is a key step. For the little ones, it could be as simple as organizing your work desk, while the older ones could help brainstorm ideas for your next product launch. Remember, it’s not about burdening them, but about letting them taste the sweetness of responsibility and contribution.

3. Learning Together:

Turn your business challenges into learning opportunities for your children. You’d be surprised at how insightful their fresh perspectives can be. And who knows, you might learn a thing or two from them! On a personal note, I’m constantly learning new things from my kiddos.

4. Family Brainstorming Sessions:

Make your business a family affair by involving everyone in brainstorming sessions. By doing so, you foster a sense of belonging, ownership, and pride in your business among your family members. Plus, you never know where the next great idea is going to come from!

5. Celebrate Together:

Celebrate every success, no matter how small, with your family. It could be a new client, reaching a sales target, or even completing a project. This way, they’ll feel directly involved in the business’s achievements and will be stoked to contribute more. When I was running my Etsy shops, my kids would be the first to cheer when the “cha-ching” noise sounded. Their excitement made it that much more exciting for me.

Remember, as mompreneurs, we’re all about nurturing and empowering, not just our businesses, but our families as well. And by involving our family in our business, we’re nurturing a new generation of confident, go-getters.

So let’s boldly and excitedly dive into this journey, creating a family business that’s more than just about profits, but about love, learning, and growth. After all, as Walt Disney himself once said, “All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them.”
